Mark is a 1975 graduate of Uniontown High school and earned a BA degree in economics from the University of Pittsburgh. He is also a graduate of the PIA Basic School of Insurance, and he obtained the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) in 1981. Mark was a partner in Fike Insurance Agency from 1979-1999 and is currently an owner in Paul Sprowls Agency, Inc.

Mark has served as president of numerous organizations including Uniontown Rotary Club, Fayette County Easter Seal Society, Fayette Industrial Fund, and the Fayette Association of Independent Insurance Agents. He is a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, current executive officer of Fay-Penn Economic Development Council, and serves as clerk of session at Trinity United Presbyterian Church.
